Tips for Remote Learning

Here’s a fun fact about TSL HQ - most of us work remotely! Yup, that’s right. We have been way ahead of the curve on this whole social distancing thing. With that being said, we wanted to bring you a few tips and tricks on how to work and study remotely during this time. We know it can be a struggle, so give yourself time to adjust.

Create a workspace for yourself.

Working in bed might sound fun, but you won’t get as much done or retain as much information working in the space where you sleep. In fact, studies have shown that working from bed can make the bedroom less relaxing and decrease your quality of sleep. Set up at a desk or table with your laptop, notebook, pens, and a big glass of water.

Create a schedule.

You have a daily schedule at school, so try to keep that at home! Make sure you’re creating time to wake up, eat, take breaks, and workout. Here’s an example:

    1. 7:30 AM - Wakeup
    2. 8 AM - Workout
    3. 9 AM - eat breakfast
    4. 10 AM - Class
    5. 11:30 AM  - Take a break
    6. 12:00 PM - Lunch
    7. 12:30 PM Class
    8. 2 PM - Class
    9. 3:30 - Self-care
    10. 4:00 PM - take a walk
    11. 6 PM - Dinner
    12. 10 PM - Sleep

Schedule time for breaks and self-care.

It’s important now more than ever to take care of yourself. Schedule time in your day to workout, to take a walk, to stretch, to breathe, to meditate, to take a shower - whatever you need to give yourself space.

Put your phone away.

It’s so tempting to have your phone in front of you 24/7. Your professor can’t see you from Zoom, right? While that may be true, we all know how much our phones can distract us. Since you aren’t physically in a classroom, make sure you’re doing everything in your power to get the most out of your education. Turn your phone off, or better yet, put it in another room when you really need to study or pay attention.

Make time to connect with your friends.

Social distancing and working remotely can feel really isolating. It’s already hard enough not to see your friends over breaks, let alone for the rest of the semester. Schedule facetime dates, phone calls, or even do something virtual together! Put on a virtual yoga class, turn facetime on while you’re working on homework from the same class - do whatever it takes to stay connected with your sisters.

There’s no doubt that this is going to be a hard time. Hopefully, making time to set up a positive, focused environment for yourself to work will help alleviate some of the stress. Take time for yourself, breathe, practice self-care. You will get through this.
