Staying Connected with your Sisters While Social Distancing

“Social Distancing” seems to be the new phrase floating around. How can we practice this while still having social interactions? What does this mean for our relationships with our sisters? As everyone tries to navigate this new way of living, we have compiled some tips to help you stay connected with your sisters!

Keep ‘dining’ with your gal pals

Lunches at your sorority house in between classes and chapter dinners have been a huge part of your week for the majority of your college career. This was a way you stayed connected and present with your sisters without having to plan anything. Now that you’re stuck at home, it may help to schedule virtual lunch and dinner dates. This can help you to compensate for lost interactions!

Be proactive about reaching out

Take it upon yourself to catch up with people you haven’t heard an update from in awhile. As a college student, your life gets incredibly busy, this is a great opportunity for you to take the time to connect with someone you really care about but haven’t had the time to talk to in a while.

Mix it up!

We all have different sisters that we call on for different things. Some are confidants, some we go out and have fun with, some we do nothing with. Make sure you're interacting with all of them so you feel more socially engaged.

Have digital hangouts with your roomies

Try leaving your FaceTime with a friend running while you go about your day. You two can chat casually as you clean, workout, cook, or practice your skincare routine, making your time together feel more natural. Socially connecting in this way could make it feel like you two still live together and are involved in each other’s day-to-day.

Let your sisters know you’re there for them

While everyone navigates these tough circumstances it is important to feel supported by each other. By reaching out and offering support to your sisters, it also increases the chances that they will offer to be there for you, too. Making time to support one another is crucial. Who knows what you’re going through better than your sisters going through the exact same thing?

These are unprecedented times. The only thing we can control is how we respond to the current circumstances. Prevent feeling isolated by scheduling time to connect with your sisters. We can still be social while social distancing!
